Unit 3: The Dumb Waiter Introduction To This Unit For this Unit our class will be focusing on a play called The Dumb Waiter written by Harold Pinter. We will also be producing our own Silent Movies. Context In our first lesson back from half term we looked over a script called The Dumb. The Dumb Waiter is a play based on two characters called Ben and Gus who are set in the basement of an old rooming house connected to the rooms above by a dumbwaiter and an intercom. The whole class sat in a circle in the middle of the room and some people took it in turns to read as either 'Ben' or 'Gus'. The next day we had our lesson in the dance studio which gave us a chance to really use the space around us and work on our "mime techniques". Firstly, we started off with standing in neutral position (both our legs shoulder width apart) in a circle. We then started off with a warm up activity where we needed count the three people down from you to your right ...

Unit 5, 6 & 7: Immigration and The Container Performance Unit 5: Immigration Introduction to This Unit In this unit will be focused on immigration and the reason behind it. We will also be looking into different cultures. Context&Planning For our warm up game we played a quick game of Splat! We then focused on immigration and the reasons as to why it occurs, for example, it could be because of better jobs, war, better education etc. We then got into groups of 4 and had to create a short scene based on what immigration meant. My group decided to create a short scene were there were 2 discriminating officers and 2 immigrants  who were coming over to our country and we were continuously questioning them on why they wanted to live in our country. Once we finished, each group performed their piece in front of the class and got feedback. We were split into three groups of four people and in our groups we were each given an A3 sheet of paper to write down what we th...

Unit 8: Introduction To This Unit This Unit is focused around us as individuals and what we feel we have achieved so far and the skills we think we would need in the future. Context In class with Rebecca we talked about whether we've changed since we first started at the college or have evolved. We also talked about whether we want to stay on the course and move onto level 3 or pick another course to do. Lastly, we done a skills sheet and wrote down all the skills that we feel we have achieved so far and the skills we need to work on. I found this lesson really really useful because it helped me realize what areas I need to work and focus on. Skills Achieved are: Team work Respect Organisation skills Flexibility Punctuality Determination Confidence Body Language Maturity Initiative Enthusiasm Leadership Speaking my mind Professional My weaknesses are: Communication skills Positivity Evaluation In my opinion I feel that I have changed and ev...

Unit 9: King Ubu

Unit 9: King Ubu Introduction To King Ubu In this unit I will be looking at the play King Ubu and it's background. The play King Ubu is like a funnier, more wild and more bizarre version of Shakespeare's Macbeth. Context&Planning Over the past week we've gone over the King Ubu script top to bottom and got an idea of what the play is actually about. We watched a couple skit YouTube videos based around political subjects such as Teresa May and Donald Trump. The reason to why we watched these videos is to get an idea of what the King Ubu play is about and why it is the certain characters talk the way they do e.g "SHIKT and Stagger Me Sideways". In my opinion I didn't find any of these videos funny which apparently were supposed to be. For the last half of the lesson we done a sculpture activity. For this activity we got into pairs and labelled ourselves A or B. Person A would sculpt person B into any person that they wanted them to be such as a family...

Unit 1&2: Identity&Introduction To Production

Image
Unit 1: Identity Introduction To This Unit In this unit we will be looking at developing different skills and creating our own first performance piece. The theme will be 'Identity'. Context&Planning In my first lesson I had with our preforming arts teacher, Rob, our class done warm up activities such as walking around the room while making eye contact with each other since that is an aspect which all actors need. While walking around the room we all had to be aware of the space we had around us and use it as much as we could. Next we done a reverse activity which is were if Rob would say go we would stop and if he said stop we would go. We also done the same with jumping and clapping. The reason why we done this activity is to focus on our listen skills which is very important for actors. I liked this activity as it would test me and create a little challenge. Once we finished that activity we then needed to find our selves a pair and labelled our selves either A o...
